201 BYOD: Enough with the PowerPoint: Advanced Design with Adobe Creative Cloud
1:00 PM - 2:00 PM
Wednesday, April 12
Tracks: Video & Media
People judge a book by its cover and often judge learning by the quality of the presentation layer. This can be problematic, as even otherwise well-authored content can be ignored if the visual design isn’t well executed. Poorly designed learning content may be judged as lacking credibility or just plain difficult. High-quality imagery, typography, and color prove very compelling and engaging—and it often takes more advanced tools to get the exact results desired. In an era where everyone has instant access to all media, visual representations are more crucial than ever. Upskilling to more advanced toolsets may be critical for those who wish to be advanced practitioners.
In this session, participants will work through several advanced imaging techniques that can be applied to learning design. These techniques go beyond the basics and the capabilities of more foundational tools like PowerPoint. Participants will be invited to complete each technique as the facilitator describes them step-by-step. You will learn how to use adjustment layers for both non-destructive color correction and creative color adjustments within your images. Next, you’ll make a static image more dynamic by adding motion with new Photoshop filters. Attendees will learn several text effects appropriate for learning that will allow them to create dynamic display text that engages viewers. This session will emphasize the importance of high-quality imagery in contemporary learning and provide you with the workflow, knowledge, and inspiration you need to create.
In this session you will learn:
- How to use the layers panel in Photoshop
- How to use blending modes to create visual interest
- How to use adjustment layers to correct images
- How to composite images from several sources
- How to create typographical effects that engage learners
- How to source image components for compositing
Technology discussed: Adobe Photoshop
Participant technology requirements: Laptop with Adobe Cloud (Free trial edition works for this session)
