Over the last few years many L&D practitioners have been forced to find new ways to deliver engaging content to their learners. Some of this was in the form of online learning, but some of it had to stay “in the classroom.” This posed challenges when learners couldn’t physically gather in spaces together. So how can we virtually create and provide the same robust learning experience, group work, discussion, and activities that a learner expects from attending a workshop in-person?

This case study will explore how we took a half-day, in-class workshop and transformed it into an interactive online workshop. We’ll discuss how we examined and broke down the in-class workshop into its core elements. We’ll then look at how we reimagined these elements as online interactions and activities. We’ll discuss the various instructor roles we needed to include to ensure the virtual session ran smoothly and review the templates used throughout the process. Next we’ll discuss the online tools we chose for participants to use and the reasons why these tools worked for our project. Finally we’ll share the lessons learned, pitfalls, set-backs, and how we continuously strive to improve the learning experience for our participants.
