909 Working Smarter: Using Technology to Organize, Automate, and Coach SMEs

10:00 AM - 11:00 AM
Friday, April 14

Tracks: Development & Tools

As the workplace becomes more remote, the need for learning and development (L&D) support has increased. More requests, coaching, project management, and design work have stretched L&D teams to their limits. Repetitive organizational tasks consume our days, rather than work that matters most: creating great educational content for our learners. What if there was a way to leverage existing technology to alleviate repetitive work and to work smarter, not harder?

In this session you will learn how the UPMC L&D team streamlined a time-consuming, manual-entry intake process into an automated self-service process. We will demonstrate how we utilize Microsoft Forms, Power Automate, SharePoint, Planner, and Teams to greatly enhance efficiencies, save time, and improve customer interactions. Finally, you will discover how we coach our subject matter experts (SMEs) more efficiently by using a multipurpose PowerPoint/Storyline 360 template. This template has all the tools and guidance that our SMEs need to succeed when writing content.

In this session you will learn:

  • How we evaluated our intake and coaching processes
  • The tools and strategies we used to streamline our work
  • How we designed a PowerPoint template to assist in the coaching of our SMEs
  • How the effects of working smarter have impacted our work

Technology discussed:

Microsoft Planner, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Power Automate, Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft Forms, Storyline
